Wine description for Blaufränkisch 2019 from Heinrich

Colour & appearance

A dense, deep cherry red colour with lively violet reflections that reflect the youthfulness of this ripe Blaufränkisch.

Nose

Impressively precise and restrainedly elegant, a complex bouquet of dark fruit - primarily sour cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry - unfolds with a fascinating earthy tone and mineral nuances of wet limestone. The subtle herbal spice of dried marjoram lends the wine a subtle depth without masking the clear fruit expression.

Palate

The palate reveals the true mastery of this wine: a perfect balance between vibrant acidity and silky texture. At 12.5% alcohol, it remains lean and precise without ever losing its intensity. The sour cherry dominates, accompanied by a filigree tannin structure that gives the wine backbone without dominating. The cool, almost Nordic elegance is characteristic of the best Blaufränkisch and is shown to perfection here.

General information

This Blaufränkisch 2019 von Heinrich represents the geological diversity of Lake Neusiedl, with grapes from both shores - from the calcareous Leitha Mountains in the west and the sandy, loamy soils of the Parndorfer Platte in the east. The spontaneous fermentation and long maturation in used 500-litre oak barrels until bottling in January 2024 have given this wine remarkable depth and complexity.

Food pairing suggestions

The vibrant acidity and clear fruit predestine this wine for dishes with character: Roast duck breast with Sour cherry sauce, Game dishes with Wild mushrooms or traditional Paprika chicken. Also to matured hard cheese an excellent choice.

Special features

What characterises this Blaufränkisch is its Unobtrusive precision - A wine that does not want to impress with power, but with finesse and honesty. The long maturation of over four years before bottling has given it a remarkable harmony without compromising its freshness. A prime example of the new Austrian wine culture, which favours elegance and terroir expression over extraction and wood.
