Colour & appearance

A transparent garnet red with violet reflections, slightly cloudy - typical of an unadorned, natural Pinot Noir with character.

Nose

Seductively precise flavour with red wild strawberries, Sour cherries and floral notes of Violets. The mineral underpinning of the loess terroir is characterised by a fine chalkiness, accompanied by subtle hints of Forest herbs and damp undergrowth. Nothing overripe, but vibrantly fresh.

Palate

On the palate, the wine impresses with its remarkable lightness and intensity at the same time - a paradox that only great Pinots can master. The fine-grained, almost silky tannins support the lively acidity structure, which gives the wine its backbone. With 12.5% alcohol, Franz Keller shows himself to be a master of restraint at a time when many German Pinot Noirs strive for power and extract. Here instead Finesse, Precision and Drinking flow.

General information

The deliberate declaration as a country wine emphasises Keller's philosophy of allowing the wine its own expression, beyond the conventions of the classification systems. The loess soil gives the wine a characteristic minerality and freshness that sets it apart from the heavy, wood-accentuated representatives of its category.
