Wine Description for Corvinone IGT 2019 by Ca´ La Bionda

Character
Ca‘ La Bionda ranks among the pioneers of Corvinone vinification in the Veneto. This single-varietal Corvinone IGT embodies the winery’s philosophy of interpreting the indigenous grape variety beyond the classic Amarone blend. With moderate 12.5% alcohol, the wine presents itself as remarkably approachable and quaffable – a deliberate departure from the opulence often associated with Valpolicella wines. The IGT classification allows maximum creative freedom.
Terroir & Origin
Ca‘ La Bionda manages vineyards in the hills east of Lake Garda, where cool downslope winds from the lake meet the Mediterranean climate of the Veneto. This climatic particularity characterises the wines with distinctive freshness and elegance. The soils of limestone and volcanic rock impart mineral depth and structural precision to the wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Corvinone is the large-berried cousin of Corvina and traditionally forms the backbone of many Valpolicella wines. When vinified as a single varietal, it reveals its true personality: cherry fruit-driven, spicy, with silky tannins and natural freshness. Ca‘ La Bionda practices organic viticulture and favours minimal intervention in the cellar. The 2019 vintage benefited from ideal growing conditions that enabled physiologically ripe grapes at moderate alcohol levels – a rarity in times of climate change.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This versatile red wine harmonises beautifully with regional cuisine: Risotto all’Amarone, Pasta e Fagioli, grilled vegetables or semi-aged cheese such as Asiago. Its moderate structure makes it an ideal companion to mushroom dishes, polenta with ragù or Saltimbocca alla Romana. The wine’s freshness also suits lightly chilled enjoyment on warm summer evenings.
