Wine Description for Petit Aigle Bourgogne Pinot Noir – Élevé en Fût AOP 2023 by Boris Champy

Colour & Appearance
A transparent ruby red that already announces this wine’s philosophy visually: here it’s about clarity, precision and Burgundian elegance rather than extraction and power.
Nose
Fresh, crisp and refreshingly direct. The bouquet reveals a vibrant blend of red berries, sour cherries and dark fruits, accompanied by verbena and delicate floral notes. A subtle spice lingers without dominating. The nose is just as transparent as the colour – a Pinot that has nothing to hide and confidently puts its tart fruitiness front and centre.
Palate
Juicy, lively, uncomplicated – and precisely why it’s so seductive. The mouth-watering acidity immediately makes you crave the next sip. Crisp red berries and sour cherries dominate, complemented by notes of undergrowth and a piquant earthy character. The tannin remains fine and restrained, the structure carried by freshness. A wine that prioritises drinkability over concentration – Burgundian lightness with substance.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come partly from Boris Champy’s own young vines, partly from a friendly, Ecocert-certified organic producer. The vineyard sites sit on limestone, gravel and clay soils with east and south-west facing aspects – classic Burgundian terroir that favours freshness and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, completely destemmed and spontaneously fermented in open vats. Champy favours gentle extraction and ageing for ten to twelve months in tonneaux. Bottling takes place without filtration – a craft approach that preserves the wine’s authenticity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce, grilled salmon or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with soft cheeses like Camembert or beef tartare.
Special Features
A wine from the Négoce series „Petit Aigle“ that proves Bourgogne appellations can offer far more than simple entry-level wines when crafted with care. At just 12.5% alcohol, a textbook example of modern, approachable Burgundy wines.
