Wine Description for Blanc de Blancs Sekt Brut 2021 by Franz Keller
- Colour & Appearance
- Intense straw yellow with a fine, persistent mousse – a visually inviting appearance that already signals substance and maturity.
- Nose
- The nose elegantly combines maturity and freshness. Ripe citrus and mandarin notes dominate, accompanied by pear and white-fleshed stone fruit. A subtle hint of reduction lends depth, whilst warm pastry and flaky brioche nuances add warmth and complexity. Cool, zesty and stony notes provide freshness and definition – a harmonious, well-rounded aromatic interplay.
- Palate
- On the palate, this sparkling wine impresses with outstanding tension and elegant pressure. The white-fleshed fruit and citrus carry the structure, whilst a vibrant minerality – distinctly shaped by the volcanic subsoil – gives the wine backbone. The texture is silky, the build precise. Finest brioche nuances round off the picture harmoniously.
- Finish
- Long, fresh and mineral-zesty, with a lingering aftertaste that impressively underscores the quality of the terroir and the craftsmanship of the vinification.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Chardonnay grapes come from vineyard sites over volcanic stone with loess overlay in Baden’s Kaiserstuhl – a terroir renowned for its mineral depth and heat retention, which gives the wine remarkable tension despite its southern ripeness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Chardonnay, produced using the traditional bottle fermentation method (Méthode Traditionnelle). Disgorged in June 2025 with a dosage of 6 g/l – a brut-typical value adjusted according to each batch. The close collaboration with the renowned sparkling wine producer Reinecker is evident: genuine sparkling wine expertise is at work here.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Ideal with oysters and fine seafood ceviche, as well as with scallops with lemon butter or goat’s cheese tartlets. Also an excellent choice as an elegant aperitif.
- Special Features
- The cooperation between Franz Keller winery and sparkling wine specialist Reinecker – jointly active at the Weingut am Klotz – lends this Blanc de Blancs a depth and precision that far exceeds the typical standard of regional sparkling wines. A sparkling wine that demonstrates what Baden can achieve.
