The Bianco di Ampeleia comes from a vineyard that was replanted using the traditional mixed method. For this, Massale selection was used from an old vineyard that consisted mainly of Trebbiano, Malvasia bianca and Ansonica. Every year, the Bianco becomes rounder and more elegant thanks to the joint planting.
The grapes grow at an altitude of 3-500 metres and are harvested by hand. At the winery, the grapes ferment together on the skins for two days, which is responsible for the high colour. The wine is then fermented spontaneously and matured for six months in large concrete tanks. The first vintage produced was 2016, since then around 35,000 bottles have been produced annually.
Color
Old gold to light amber with a silky-matt cloudiness.
Nose
Citrus, wet chalk, orange blossom, light black tea and cut, crunchy apple sum up the first impressions of the 2022 Bianco di Ampeleia from Ampeleia. There is also a peach stone, some light tobacco and pome fruit peel. The intense nose builds continuously with increasing contact with the air.
Mouth
With tart, astringent tannins on the palate, the course is set for this white wine characterised by mash. No superficial fruit, but flavour and structure take over the leitmotif here. With a fresh acidity, the overriding tonality is clearly in a major key with a vector to the front! A wine for advanced drinkers and mash lovers who don't want to do without flow.
