Rotgipfler
Also known as: Reifler, Roter Veltliner (historically confused)
One of Austria’s rarest indigenous grape varieties – today found almost exclusively in the Thermenregion south of Vienna. Rotgipfler stands for highly ripe, full-bodied white wines with distinctive acidity, oscillating between sensory richness and a certain rusticity. The variety shows pronounced aromas of ripe pears, honeydew melon and herbs, often with a slightly oily texture.
In the Thermenregion, Rotgipfler is traditionally blended with Zierfandler to create a cuvée called „Spätrot-Rotgipfler“ – a regional speciality produced nowhere else in the world.
