Glera
Also known as: Prosecco (historical name, now DOC-protected)
Glera is the grape behind Prosecco – officially named as such since 2009 to protect its geographical origin. A variety that focuses on lightness: fresh pear, white blossoms, a hint of almond. No depth, no claim to ageing potential – but that’s precisely its strength.
Most Prosecchi are made industrially, with tank autoclaves and aromatic yeast. Fidora takes a different path: old vines, hand-harvesting, spontaneous fermentation. Casa Coste Piane makes classic col fondo sur lie – spontaneous bottle fermentation, not disgorged, deliberately cloudy. Prosecco as it used to be.
