Caladoc

As a successful cross between Grenache and Malbec, the southern French grape variety Caladoc combines the best of both worlds: it possesses the velvety warmth of Grenache, whilst simultaneously bringing the deep, dark colour, a firm tannin structure and the spicy blackberry fruit of Malbec. Originally bred in Montpellier in 1958, the variety has developed into a real asset for wines full of character. It lends the cuvées a fleshy, profound foundation, supported by a fine, animating bitterness, which pairs outstandingly with Mediterranean stews.

How wonderfully vibrant this grape variety presents itself in interplay with Grenache and Syrah is demonstrated by Domaine Marcoux with their everyday red cuvée. Here, Caladoc contributes a juicy dark fruit, which, despite all the wine’s lightness, imparts an animating depth and freshness – an uncomplicated pleasure that perfectly captures the sun-drenched soul of the South.
