Tasting note
Character
A Chardonnay of crystalline clarity and tremendous vibrant energy. This Premier Cru eschews showy effects, displaying instead an unmistakable saline length and a astonishing transparency. A purist white wine from the Côte de Beaune that impressively reflects the estate’s transition towards uncompromising purity in the glass.
Terroir & Origin
Originating from the renowned Premier Cru site Charmes in Meursault, this wine embodies the famous Burgundy terroir in its purest form. Winemaker Pierre-Henri Rougeot has been guiding the 12.6-hectare family estate since 2016 with a radical philosophy: driven by the conviction that great wine cannot come from poor soil, he focuses on biodynamic viticulture. The estate has been certified organic since 2020 and is currently in conversion to Demeter, with work in the vineyards carried out almost entirely by hand.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, Rougeot vinifies this wine in the historic 18th-century cellar. Shaped by his years of apprenticeship, he employs a low-intervention, reductive winemaking approach: fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, batonnage is entirely eschewed, as are filtration and fining. Maturation takes place in traditional 228-litre Burgundy oak barrels with a intentionally low proportion of new oak and without the addition of sulphur during the ageing process, preserving the Chardonnay’s unadulterated structure.
Food Pairings
Its lively structure makes this Meursault an exquisite match for pan-seared scallops, turbot with linseed butter, or a classic Poulet de Bresse in cream sauce. It also shows at its absolute best alongside mature Comté.
