Wine Description for Spektra 2022 by Nittnaus Anita & Hans

Colour & Appearance
A pale, transparent cherry red of remarkable clarity – a wine that displays its lightness right from the glass.
Nose
An aromatic fireworks display: cherries, rosehips and hibiscus practically leap from the glass. These are joined by herbal tea notes, blackcurrant and bramble leaf, complemented by delicate citrus nuances of dried orange slices. The floral component oscillates elegantly with spicy accents – an aroma that seduces you into immediate drinking.
Palate
Fruity-herbal and bone-dry on the attack, this formidable thirst-quencher presents itself with style. The red fruit is defined by an almost transparent, fine-grained phenolic grip at the tongue’s edge, which gives the wine structure without weighing it down. The ripe acidity is perfectly interwoven with subtle tannins and creates a bacchic balance that encourages you to keep drinking – beware, the bottle empties faster than you’d think.
Finish
Refreshing and lingering with a fine herbal spiciness that resonates long after.
Terroir & Origin
A fascinating connection of two vineyard sites at Lake Neusiedl: Welschriesling from Breitenacker in Gols meets Blaufränkisch from Jungenberg in Jois. Both sites bring clay and slate – soils that lend this unconventional blend its mineral tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
This non-vintage cuvée of Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling is a bold statement. Partly pressed, partly fermented with whole bunches, the red grapes were destemmed and pressed after eight days of skin contact. Bottled unrefined and unfiltered at a moderate 11% alcohol – a prime example of the new generation of Austrian natural wines.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with smoked beetroot with goat’s curd, grilled sardines with coarse sea salt or liver skewers with sage and Tropea onions. A versatile companion for light, aromatic cuisine.
Special Features
A radically drinkable wine that blurs the boundaries between white and red. With Spektra, the Nittnaus family proves that innovation and tradition need not be opposites.
