Wine Description for Monthélie „Les Toisieres“ 2021 by Rougeot Père & Fils

Character
An unusual white Monthélie from the vineyard site Les Toisieres, which combines the mineral precision of Burgundy with the freshness of the 2021 vintage. Rougeot Père & Fils manages one of the few Chardonnay parcels in this appellation, which is predominantly known for Pinot Noir, thereby demonstrating craftsmanship off the beaten path. The wine displays that Burgundian finesse one would expect from family estates with deep roots in the terroir – without the price tags of the famous neighbouring communes.
Terroir & Origin
Monthélie lies between Volnay and Meursault, on the hills of the Côte de Beaune, and benefits from this privileged neighbourhood. The soils are characterised by limestone with clay components, which lend the Chardonnay structure and tension. Les Toisieres is situated on a mid-slope with good exposure, which in cooler vintages such as 2021 is crucial for ripeness. The continental climate with its cool nights preserves the acidity structure that promises longevity for this wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Chardonnay is likely produced here in the traditional Burgundian style – with moderate oak use that does not overshadow the fruit. The 2021 vintage is regarded as cool and precise, which benefited wines with vibrant minerality and taut acidity. At 13% alcohol, the wine presents itself in balance, without the heaviness of warmer vintages. Rougeot Père & Fils stands for craftsmanship and respectful treatment of the terroir – wines that let their origin speak for itself, rather than obscuring it.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to goat’s cheese, roasted poultry or fish dishes with butter sauce. The mineral freshness harmonises beautifully with scallops, veal escalope in cream sauce or a classic risotto with porcini mushrooms. Also an excellent choice alongside Comté of medium age.
