Wine description for Karthäuserhof Brut traditional bottle fermentation by Karthäuserhof
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous, pale yellow with elegant silvery reflections. The perlage is ultra-fine and broadly distributed – a sign of artisanal precision and extended ageing on the lees.
- Nose
- The nose unfolds with remarkable finesse: citrus, green apple and a cool limestone minerality form the fresh opening, underpinned by a delicate herbal spice. With air, the sparkling wine opens beautifully – brioche, oyster shell, a hint of sea breeze, green tea and grapefruit join in. Complex, yet always elegant and precise.
- Palate
- On the palate, this sparkling wine demonstrates what German sparkling wine culture means at the highest level: razor-sharp, cool and mouth-watering, whilst possessing a remarkably creamy texture. The acidity is fine-nerved and invigorating, without ever being cutting. A sparkling wine that shines both as an apéritif and has the ambition to accompany great dishes.
- Finish
- Long, saline-mineral and characterised by sustained freshness. The finish lingers with fine citrus and yeast notes – one simply doesn’t want to stop drinking.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A convincing blend of 80% Riesling and 20% Pinot Blanc, vinified using the traditional bottle fermentation method. After impressive 36 months of ageing on the lees and a restrained dosage of merely 1.5 g/l, this sparkling wine presents itself as a Brut of great purity. Mathieu Kaufmann, a cellar master with unmistakably French spirit, is responsible.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Ideal with oysters and fine seafood platters, as well as with sashimi, goat’s cheese or light starters with citrus vinaigrette. Of course, also an elegant apéritif in its own right.
- Special Features
- A sparkling wine that, with French Champagne methodology and Moselle Riesling soul, builds a convincing bridge between two worlds – whilst offering an exceptional price-to-quality ratio.
