Wine Description for La Haute Cirriére Extra Brut 2019 by Jérôme Blin

Colour & Appearance
Straw yellow with a delicate rosé shimmer and an elegant, fine mousse – a Champagne that signals precision from the moment it touches the glass.
Nose
The nose is multifaceted and expressive: candied lemon zest and mandarin form the fresh opening, followed by riper notes such as yellow plum and quince. Woven through this is a subtle pastry note of meringue and nutmeg, underscored by a whisper of cinnamon, graphite and a floral depth of almond blossom and violet. Complex, yet never overwrought.
Palate
On the palate, the Champagne reveals itself as yellow-fruited and lightly waxy, with a charming note of woodruff that lends both freshness and individuality. The mousse is lively and precise, the pressure well-judged. A subtle salinity and an agile, penetrating minerality – typical of the chalky-limestone subsoil of the vineyard – carry the wine with tension across the palate.
Finish
Long, fresh and characterised by an invigorating minerality. The 7 grams of dosage are barely perceptible – the wine feels dry, taut and yet inviting.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the eponymous single vineyard site with 50-year-old vines planted in clayey-silty chalky marl soil – a terroir that bestows the wine with its characteristic texture and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend predominantly of Pinot Meunier with a proportion of Pinot Noir, aged in stainless steel for maximum fruit clarity. Tirage in March 2020, disgorged in January 2024 – a careful maturation on the lees. Only 700 bottles produced.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with oysters, delicate monkfish with lemon butter, scallops or simple lobster with mayonnaise. Also a delight as an apéritif in its own right.
Special Features
A Blanc de Noirs in the broadest sense, which impressively demonstrates the qualities of the often underestimated Pinot Meunier. The limited edition and the clearly defined single vineyard terroir make this Champagne a true discovery wine.
