Domaine D'Ouréa is located in the heart of the Vaucluse department in the southern Rhône valley in Vacqueyras. The name of the domaine, situated 520m above sea level, is based on Greek mythology and refers to the god of the mountains. With a direct view of Mont Ventoux opposite and the Dentelles de Montmirail, Adrien Roustan's vineyard covers 20 hectares spread over Vacqueyras and Gigondas. The farm has been certified organic since 2012, followed by the conversion to biodynamic farming in 2020, which will be completed with the 2023 vintage.
La Belle Cime comes from the chalky terraces above Gigondas at an altitude of up to 520 metres. Infused with red marl, this wine of predominantly Grenache Noir is powerful with subtle tension. Planted in 1975, the vines were still planted by Adrien's grandfather. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed, gently pressed and then fermented spontaneously in concrete. The wine is also aged exclusively in concrete.
Color
Purple red with violet reflections.
Nose
With rich red berry fruit of Amarena cherries, mulberries and blackberries as well as tart accents of elderberry and blood orange zest, the 2020 La Belle Cime Gigondas from Domaine Domaine d'Ourea exudes its lush bouquet from the chalice. The fruit is joined by a distinctive, fresh mineral nerve and striking Mediterranean scrub reminiscent of olive leaf, rosemary and juniper wood. Pure Rhône in full effect.
Mouth
The palate is also fruit-driven with juicy dark fruit, delicate vibration and polished tannin. Fine-grained like the finest sandpaper, the phenolic contours it and restrains the almost exuberant fruit, carried by cool minerality and stimulating finely interwoven acidity - a rare commodity in warm Gigondas. A pleasure when drunk young, but a rarer and rarer pleasure when matured.
