Info about the wine
What a beautiful terroir! We are in the hamlet of Champvent, near Chardonnay. The name Les Crays of course stands for the chalky rocks that one encounters here. The clay soil reveals these white limestone pebbles here and there. The vineyard, unusually on the otherwise east-facing Côte Maconnais, turns west to enjoy the afternoon warmth. Spontaneously fermented and aged in 500 litre barrels and Burgundian pieces for 11 months.
Color
Sparkling light golden yellow with clear green reflections.
Nose
The 2018 Macon Climat "Les Crays" exudes what one expects from a fine Chardonnay from Burgundy. In addition to subtle fruit of apple, pear and citrus, it shows fine notes of mushrooms and anise as well as mineral components reminiscent of mussel shell and sea breeze. Skilful use of wood is noticeable in the form of discreet cedar notes.
Palate
On the palate, we encounter a drinkable wine with subtle freshness and stimulating minerality. Its cool and finesse-rich structure in combination with the moderate alcohol makes us empty one or the other bottle more - and with the price, this happens completely without regret. Dishes that bring the same elegance as he appreciates his accompaniment.
