The Azienda Agricola Valfaccenda was founded in 2010 by Luca Faccenda and his partner Carolina Roggera in Canale. On the steep and sandy hills of the Roero, Luca and Carolina grow only the autochthonous grape varieties Nebbiolo and Arneis - in the firm knowledge that only grape varieties with indigenous roots are able to authentically reflect their origin on the bottle. The two hectares owned by the estate are situated around the winery near Canale. Other areas on the hills Le Rocche, the landmark of Roero, as well as in Vezza, Madonnna di Loreto in Canale and San Grato in Santo Stefano are cultivated on lease. The soils of the Roero are made up of sand, which in ancient times formed the seabed of the Gulf of Padania and sometimes appears mixed with clay sediments. In 2014, Luca Faccenda registered the farm for organic certification to allow his vines the best conditions for the authentic expression of Roero.

The grapes for the 2022 Roero come mainly from two vineyards near the village of Madonna di Loreto, in the Valle Faccenda, Loreto and Mompellini. Since the vineyards have different soil characteristics, locations and vigour, Luca and Carolina also try to take these characteristics into account during harvesting and vinification.

Roero is made partly from fermented juice of destemmed grapes, and partly from fermented whole grapes, the proportions of which may vary depending on the vintage. After about a month of fermentation, the wine matures until it is bottled in late spring after the harvest, when the moon is waning, and is fined and unfiltered. The first Roero was produced in the 2010 vintage.

Color

Dark straw yellow, bright and clear.

Nose

Fermented on the skins and low in sulphur, the ageing is also reflected in the nose of the 2022 Roero by Valfaccenda youthful with musty and herbaceous notes, it recalls stewed apples, green apricots and yellow pears, supported by culinary herbs and slightly nutty notes. Stimulatingly authentic Arneis.

Mouth

Stimulatingly tart with a dense texture and multi-layered aromas, Valfaccenda's Arneis stands out pleasantly from its many smoothly ironed market companions. Powerful in the drink, it balances the joyful fruit with tart and again nutty aromas, a little liquorice provides additional extract. There is a lot of lard on the palate, flanked by tart phenolic and gently pulsating acidity in the backbeat.
