Wine Description for Transnocho Reserva 2014 by Remírez de Ganuza

Colour & Appearance
Deep, impenetrable ruby red with a black core and vibrant violet reflections – a wine that signals strength and seriousness even in the glass.
Nose
The nose is complex and seductive: sandalwood and black cardamom open the play, followed by pepper, vanilla and liquorice. Beneath this shimmers dark fruit – black cherries, mulberries and dried plums – complemented by notes of tobacco and freshly brewed mocha. An aromatic profile of oriental depth and impressive complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the Trasnocho 2014 bears the hallmark of a wine designed for extended bottle ageing. The new French oak is distinctly present, yet is carried with sovereign ease by an opulent, extract-rich dark fruit. The tannins are dense and fine-knit, youthfully firm, with a pulsating freshness of acidity that lends the wine tension and backbone. Deep, powerful, with cathedral-like structure.
Finish
Long, spicy and persistent – the aromas unfold in layers and resonate for minutes after the final sip. A finish of epic length.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 5% Viura & Malvasia, from vines over 60 years old. The grapes are hand-harvested in 12-kg crates, cold-soaked for 24 hours and meticulously selected on the sorting table – even separated by shoulders and tips. A specially developed PVC water-bag technique gently presses 70% of the juice from the must without extracting seed tannins. Spontaneous fermentation, followed by 21 months of ageing in 100% new French oak.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with Louisiana-style ribs with smoky depth or a rustic white bean stew with porcini mushrooms and thyme. For those who love contrasts: monkfish in soy glaze with sesame beetroot and dark miso butter offers an exciting bridge between power and elegance.
Special Features
The Trasnocho is the flagship of Remírez de Ganuza, one of Rioja’s most innovative and uncompromising winemakers. The specially developed extraction technique and meticulous selection make this wine an exceptional product in both technical and artisanal terms. Drinking well now, yet with genuine cellaring potential for a further 10–15 years.
