Out of stock

Dark berry, rich and with a powerful body, but combed, made city-fair, honest and with a good heart, the Tuscan comes along far from rugged. Dried fruit aromas of figs, dates and plums cavort, almost rum-pot-like.

Tasting note from dated Nov 27, 2019 copyright Peter Mueller

Color

Dark purple in colour with a violet rim and opaque core, the wine shows clearly and brilliantly in the glass.

Nose

The first nose suggests warmth and ripe grapes, but for all its self-assured power, it is at the same time sedate and unagitated. There are dried fruit aromas of figs, dates and plums, which almost have something rum-pot-like. Beside the spice of roasted peanuts and chestnuts, as well as black truffle, the pleasant smell of real weakly deoiled cocoa is found. This in harmony with each other suggests strength, which, however, draws a very balanced picture.

Palate

The rich tannin of the 2016 Rosso di Montalcino from Pian dell' Orino has power and yet a pleasant softness with which the wine wraps itself tightly with fruit melt. Dark-berried, rich and powerfully bodied, but combed, city-made, honest and with a good heart, the Tuscan comes across as far from rugged. The ripe, sheer dried, fruit notes duplicate on the palate and its sturdy framework gives the wine a lingering length.
