Wine description for Bukkuram „Padre della Vigna“ Passito di Pantelleria DOC 2019 500ml by Marco de Bartoli

Colour & Appearance
Deep, luminous mahogany with golden reflections – a visual promise of the concentration and maturity this extraordinary Passito brings.
Nose
The bouquet is of beguiling complexity: dried apricots, sweet mango and dates meld with raisins, nougat and pine honey. To this is added the richness of juicy fruit bread. The 30-month maturation in French oak leaves elegant traces: wood smoke, tobacco box and grilled almonds lend the wine a seductive roasted note that perfectly balances the opulent sweetness.
Palate
On the palate, the full magic of this Passito unfolds: concentrated sweetness meets a vibrant orange and citrus note, which gives the wine that freshness that distinguishes it from clumsy sweet wines. This balance between opulence and vitality is the hallmark of great Pantelleria wines. The texture is silky, almost oily, yet never heavy.
Finish
Long, persistent, with lingering dried fruit notes and an elegant bitter orange freshness that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in volcanic, terraced slopes in the Bukkuram district on Pantelleria. Planted between 1950 and 1970, they are trained as low, free-standing bushes in the traditional „vite ad alberello“ system – a cultivation method declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. 2,500 vines per hectare with minimal yields of 25 hl/ha guarantee the highest concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Zibibbo (Muscat d’Alexandrie). Half of the grapes are dried on mats in the sun for at least three weeks, whilst the other half ripens on the vine until September. After fermentation begins, the dried grapes are added and macerated for three months. This is followed by 30 months in French barriques and 6 months in stainless steel – a vinification that demands patience and precision.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Smoked duck liver terrine with orange zest, Blue Stilton with fruit bread or a salted caramel tart with mango ice cream – this Passito demands equally complex partners.
Special Features
A wine by Marco de Bartoli, one of the icons of Sicilian wine culture, who combines Pantelleria’s tradition with uncompromising quality.
