Wine Description for Creutz Silvaner wurzelecht 2022 by Luckert – Zehnthof

Colour & Appearance
Pale golden yellow with delicate green reflections – a wine that still clearly displays its youth.
Nose
Initially closed, the Creutz opens up after aeration with impressive complexity. Sweet pear, yellow apple and honeydew melon form the fruity foundation, complemented by light floral notes and honey. Spicy notes of ginger and anise lend the bouquet additional depth – charming and multifaceted in equal measure.
Palate
Currently dominated by pronounced fruit with fine residual sweetness, yet behind this one can already sense the mineral complexity that this wine promises. The 150-year-old ungrafted vines lend it a concentration and substance that are only beginning to reveal themselves at this stage. A wine that demands patience and rewards it.
Finish
Long, mineral aftertaste in which the complexity that lies within this monumental Silvaner flashes through. Here the wine’s true potential becomes apparent.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Sonnenberg in Sulzfeld, situated in the middle of a residential area, harbours an oenological treasure: approximately 150-year-old ungrafted vines that the Luckert family has painstakingly recultivated. Some had already been cut down by previous owners – a sacrilege that was fortunately corrected.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Silvaner from ancient ungrafted vines with naturally minimal yields. Aged in a 600-litre Tonneau used for several years, which gives the wine structure without dominating it with oak.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pumpkin risotto with ginger, carrot soup with crispy prawn wonton or crispy pork loin with apricot relish – the Creutz harmonises with dishes that echo its fruit and spice.
Special Characteristics
This is not a wine for immediate consumption. Decant it generously or – better still – lay it down for a few years. Those with patience will be rewarded with a monumental Silvaner that demonstrates what this often underestimated grape variety is capable of.
