Wine information
Amburza is the name of the vineyard, which translates as Lilienfeld. The calcareous low mountain location lies at 425 to 550 metres, is organically farmed, not irrigated and partly worked with horses to prevent soil compaction. The Amburza consists of around 85 to 90 % Cabernet Sauvignon from a 23-year-old vineyard with smaller proportions of Tempranillo and Graciano from a 16-year-old Palomar vineyard. The grapes were harvested manually into small crates to avoid pressure damage, then reselected and completely destemmed, followed by spontaneous temperature-controlled fermentation with 20 days of cold maceration and subsequent BSA. The wine was matured Amburza in French barrels in first and second fill.
Color
Ruby red, very slightly transparent
Nose
The 2018 Amburza is a strikingly ripe southern Cabernet. It opens with a hint of volatile acidity, which is followed by a dark, full fruit of cassis, cherry and blackberry along with a spice cake. Everything is flavoured with a little sweet paprika spice.
Palate
On the palate, the cuvée is rich and juicy with lots of ripe, dark and melting fruit, paired with an oriental spiciness and a hint of pyrazine. The tannins seem to have been polished with a microfibre cloth. At the same time, the wine has plenty of extract. It is a full, dense wine from Navarre.
