Located in Vinzelles in the Mâconnais, the La Soufrandière vineyard was acquired by Jules Bret in 1947. In 2000, the brothers Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret, also known as the Bret Brothers, took over the management and converted it directly to organic cultivation and in 2006 to biodynamic cultivation. All their wines are Mâconnais whites with 96 % Chardonnay and 4 % Aligoté. Gamay is marketed under the Negociant label Bret Brothers. The size of the vineyard today is around 11.5 hectares around Vergisson, Pouilly-Vinzelles and Saint-Véran. The wines are vinified in perennial tonneaux or concrete vats. Carbonic maceration is used for the Chardonnay La Carbonnode, and sulphur is completely dispensed with for the Zen line. The meticulousness with which the brothers have been at work for 20 years has made the winery one of the best and highest-rated in the entire Mâconnais.
