Wine Description for Hidden Treasures No.3 Balaton Villa Tolnay 2021 by Moric
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale straw yellow with luminous green reflections – a wine that already promises freshness and vitality to the eye.
- Nose
- Crystal clear and mineral: Flint notes dominate the initial impression, before an elegant fruit palette unfolds. Green apple, unripe pear and peach meet bright citrus aromas. Fine herbal nuances of lemon thyme, mint and sage join in – invigorating and precise as spring water from the mountains.
- Palate
- Here the true class of this Riesling-Furmint cuvée reveals itself: A captivating saline minerality carries the wine, whilst a juicy, almost sweet-seeming fruit (completely dry on the palate!) provides balance. The texture is lively and refreshing, the acidity structure perfectly integrated. Every sip awakens the desire for the next – a wine of purist elegance and impressive drinkability.
- Finish
- Long, saline-mineral and with lingering herbal notes that cleanse the palate and leave it refreshed.
- Terroir & Origin
- From Lake Balaton, Hungary’s legendary inland sea, comes this cuvée from the collaboration between Roland Velich (Moric) and Villa Tolnay. The region produces wines of remarkable minerality and freshness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Riesling and Furmint in equal parts, harvested separately and aged individually in large wooden casks. After at least one year on the lees, the wines were blended – a union that combines the best of both grape varieties: Riesling’s precision and Furmint’s structure.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- This purist wine demands equally clear dishes: Asparagus tips with hazelnut sauce and potato risotto, swordfish carpaccio with lime or Riesling foam soup with scallops. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese or steamed sea fish with herbs.
- Special Features
- Part of Roland Velich’s „Hidden Treasures“ series – wines that bring hidden gems from unusual regions to light. This cuvée impressively demonstrates the potential of Hungarian white wines beyond the mainstream.
