Info from the winegrower
50 % Weissburgunder, 25 % Chardonnay, 20 % Grauer Burgunder, 5 % Neuburger.
Deeply rooted in crystalline slate and quartzite schist soils, Pinot Gris thrives excellently on the Joiser Hackelsberg, a north-western slope. Weissburgunder and Chardonnay from the chalky and slatey eastern slopes of the Leithagebirge - largely from the top sites Breitenbrunner Edelgraben and Windener Alter Berg - are the perfect complement.
Vinification
The vineyards were farmed organically and biodynamically. Hand-picked at the end of August to the beginning of September, spontaneous fermentation, mostly left on the skins for a fortnight. Gently pressed with the basket press. Biological acid reduction, matured for 19 months in amphorae and in used oak barrels on its own yeast, bottled unfiltered.
Color
Cloudy rosé with apricot inclusions.
Nose
What a juiciness and beguiling freshness is revealed here on the nose - ripe apples, ripe pears, rhubarb and rosehip, a multitude of herbs and meadow flowers. One immediately wants to dive in, so exciting, multi-layered, free and fresh does this drop show itself.
Palate
On the palate, the 2019 Graue Freyheit is quite puristic with extremely fine spice and juicy fruit. You can't get enough of this lively wine, which convinces with depth, length and incredible facets. An absolute highlight on its own and pure pleasure with food!
Shake before enjoying.
