Info
Equal parts of Sankt Laurent and Zweigelt find their way into the red Mulatschak. The vines are planted on sandy-loamy soils with a gravel topsoil at Lake Neusiedl. Both varieties were harvested at the beginning of September at a rather early stage of ripeness. In the blend, fermentation begins on whole clusters. After four days, pressing takes place and the process continues on the fine lees for another four months.
At 11 % by volume, it is lean in alcohol and crisply dry with 1g/l residual sugar.
A straightforward, uncluttered drink.
Color
Dense cherry red with slight cloudiness, dark core and light rim
Nose
Full of finesse and spice at the same time. At the same time, it seems enormously cool and refreshing in the context of the Pannonian, very dry climate. Blackberry, raspberry, elderberry and blackcurrant seem very lush and rich, but the fruit is refreshing, invigorating and crisp. A little sour cherry adds additional accents. The red mulatschak reminds of pencil and graphite. Cold smoke and some flint counter this. Juniper, cardamom and some black pepper set off clear scent marks. Always in the context of a fine, Mediterranean herbal spiciness that contributes to every moment in the background.
Palate
On the palate, it is clear that it was enormously beneficial to cool this wine down to about 13°C. This gives it enormous finesse, elegance and drinkability. As a result, it gains enormous finesse and elegance as well as drinking flow. It is almost silky on the palate. The fruit is enormously present, but not dominant. A very variable drink, refreshing and invigorating. Its spicy aromas are restrained and well dosed in the aftertaste.
