Wine description for El Mas de l’A. Racorell 2020 by Portal del Priorat
- Colour & Appearance
- Radiant cherry red with youthful, violet reflections at the rim.
- Nose
- Extremely fresh and expressive. It aromas of crisp red berries, delicate floral notes, wild garrigue and a subtle touch of black pepper – underpinned by the cool minerality of wet slate.
- Palate
- On the palate, the wine presents itself as completely juicy, agile and immensely vibrant. A linear streak of acidity meets a silky texture and fine-grained tannins. The red fruit comes across as elegant and cool, supported by a moderate 14.0% abv.
- Finish
- Of medium length, sustained by lingering freshness, cool slate minerality and a dangerously high drinkability.
- Terroir & Origin
- Shaped by the legendary Llicorella slate of the Catalan DOQ Priorat. In the rugged hinterland, Alfredo Arribas relies on cool vineyard sites and radically yield-restricted vines to showcase the terroir’s minerality without any alcoholic heat.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- An exciting blend of classic Garnacha Tinta alongside the rare varieties Garnacha Peluda and Garnacha Gris. Following spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine aged for 12 months in large foudres and demi-muids, completely free of new oak.
- Food Pairings
- Pairs brilliantly with rabbit paella or juicy grilled swordfish.
- Special Features
- A manifesto of the new school of Priorat: instead of over-extracted, heavy blockbusters, Arribas presents a delicate approach to Grenache interpretation, full of transparency, freshness and cool finesse.
