Colour & appearance

Dense Cherry Red with violet and slightly rusty reflections - a classic image for a mature southern Rhône wine with substance and depth.

Nose

This is where the Grenache from its best side: warm, ripe fruit from Blackberry, Sweet cherry and Blueberry, never overripe, but polished and harmonious. Beetroot brings earthy flavour, Cocoa butter and Roasted coffee beans lend sensual depth. The Mediterranean soul of the wine is revealed through Rosemary, Thyme, Lavender and Black olives. These are joined by pickled plums, Cinnamon, Carnation and Juniper. A touch Pencil ensures cool elegance, Hibiscus for floral darkness.

Palate

Fascinatingly ambivalent: on the one hand, there is generous, warm fruit with a clear extract sweetness and loud expression - the Earthy beetroot acts as the perfect link. In contrast, a surprisingly present, crisp acidity, which gives the opulence a bite and ensures juiciness. The Mild tannin starts directly on the palate with tart bitterness without dominating. This tension between southern warmth and structural freshness makes the wine surprisingly drinkable despite its 15.5% alcohol.

Departure

On the finish, the wine is surprisingly restrained: the fruit is elegantly portioned, ethereal nuances and Tart accents gain space - a controlled, refined finale.

Terroir & origin

Château La Nerthe is one of the historic estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and cultivates first-class vineyards in the southern Rhône. The pebbles of the famous Galets store the heat of the day and release it to the vines at night - ideal conditions for concentration and ripeness.

Grape variety & vinification

Classic Châteauneuf assemblage from Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. The 2019 vintage benefited from ideal conditions that led to perfect ripeness while maintaining freshness - a balancing act that was masterfully achieved here.
