Captivating with an intense garnet red, streaked with mottled purple hues at the edges, almost impenetrable to the eye.
The 2020 Châteuneuf du Pape Rouge Clos des Papes opens with an olfactory world of dried plum, raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle notes of violet, mint and sandalwood. With increasing contact with the air, cocoa, black olives and liquorice join in, weaving a seductive, opulent profile of a red liquid dream.
On the palate, it glides silky smooth, juicy and flatters with a balanced fruit sweetness. With supple tannins and a harmonious acidity, it offers a roundness and fullness that is second to none. This wine harmonises particularly well with dishes that have both sweet and spicy elements.
For ideal enjoyment, it is recommended to decant the wine and enjoy it from a spacious glass.
Try with a finely spiced red cabbage tart filled with caramelised cashews and pears, topped with matured brie. Alternatively, a duck confit refined with a touch of balsamic and dried plums or slices of veal leg accompanied by a Marsala pesto and a risotto with aromatic pointed morels.
