Info

Daphne is a Vinho Verde from the Lima sub-region. 100% of the autochthonous Loureiro variety find their way into this wine from Aphros. Production is limited to 6000 bottles in 2020. As expected, it is a lightweight with 11.5 % vol.

The vines are planted on granite-rich soils where they are naturally harvested by hand. After a 14-hour contact with the must, pressing and spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts take place. The fermentation as well as the ageing take place in concrete eggs as well as used chestnut wood barrels at 15 to 18°C.

Nose

The nose succeeds in underpinning the clear yellow fruit with a fine, nutty spiciness. Mirabelle, peach, but above all exotic fruits dominate the first impression. Grilled pineapple and mango advance quickly. Roasted chestnuts and almonds provide nutty spice alongside nuances of hazelnut and walnut. Bready nuances are reminiscent of sourdough bread crust, stomach bread and a little speculoos biscuit. With a little patience, a distinct note of caramelised quince and warm pear cake unfolds in the glass. Acacia blossoms also slowly get going.

Palate

It seamlessly follows on from the expectations of the nose. However, it presents itself even more slender and precise than initially expected. Despite all its finesse and its extremely slender appearance, it lacks nothing. It lacks neither broad shoulders nor stamina. Its juiciness and playful lightness quickly make up for the lack of muscles. The granite-rich soils enhance its delicacy and mineral hints. In the aftertaste, the fruit suddenly comes to the fore clearly greener and mixed with plenty of fresh herbs.
