Wine Description for Ampeleia IGT 2018 1500ml Magnum by Ampeleia

Colour & Appearance
Deep purple-red with a black core and vibrant violet reflections – a wine that announces its concentration even in the glass.
Nose
A hedonistic abundance of aromas that showcases Cabernet Franc in its Tuscan interpretation: mint and thyme meet orange blossom water, underpinned by fine cedarwood spice and sandalwood. The fruit base impresses with black cherries, lingonberries and cassis, accentuated by black cardamom and sloe. A wine that absolutely demands decanting to unfold its full potential.
Palate
Meaty and extract-rich with a firm grip. The dark fruit is structured by leafy, athletic tannins – trained, but never aggressive. Peppery notes underscore the fruit abundance, whilst the wine effortlessly manages the remarkable balancing act between concentration and silkiness. The ripe acidity keeps the structure taut and precise.
Finish
Long and distinctly minty-cool, with lingering spice and a freshness that elegantly balances the powerful body.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyards around Roccatederighi in southern Maremma on clay-limestone soils at varying elevations form the foundation. Here Cabernet Franc finds that rare synergy with terroir that led to the establishment of the winery in 2002.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Cabernet Franc – a bold decision that pays off. Hand-harvested grapes, 15% whole-bunch fermentation, spontaneous fermentation and 12 months ageing in wooden vessels. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol, the wine proves that elegance does not exclude power.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Young kid roasted with thyme and savory, monkfish on bay leaf skewers with red peppers, or grilled beetroot with feta cheese and oregano – a wine that harmonises equally well with meat, aromatic vegetables and fish.
Special Features
The magnum bottle promises slower, more harmonious development. A flagship of Maremma that proves Cabernet Franc can develop a distinctive, fascinating identity in Tuscany.
