A palate pleaser hidden behind names like Marco de Bartoli, actually two wineries that are different in both shape and flavour. The Samperi estate spans the traditional Marsalla region in western Sicily and is the heart of the operations. A second wine production facility is located in Bukkuram on Pantelleria, a small volcanic island 100 km southwest of Sicily.
Marco de Bartoli was a racing driver in his youth, known for his explosive energy. His immense courage and passionate dedication helped create a new image for Sicilian wines, making them highly prized wines today. Today, the winery is run by his children Renato, Sebastiano and Gipi, who are committed to their father's vision.
The winery's motto reflects this inspiration, saying, inspired by Gaudi: "To be original, one should return to the roots". Keeping this philosophy in mind, the winery focuses on the indigenous grape varieties Grillo, Zibibbo, Catarratto, Lucido and Pignatello.
Instead of conventional food recommendations, we suggest accompanying the wines with fine hors d'oeuvres or light pasta dishes. For a truly original pairing suggestion, try them with a mixture of freshly baked bread and olive oil for an authentic Sicilian experience.
