Info
2022 started in Burgenland with a very dry spring. There was no winter moisture and virtually no rain until June. July and August were very hot. Growth was enormously weak and delayed due to the dry period. The result was enormously small, loose grapes with a high concentration in the must.
Zorra 2022 is based on the grape variety Zweigelt to 100%. The vines are located in the Fuchsenfeld vineyard in Halbturn. We are located on the eastern side of Lake Neusiedl, close to the Hungarian border. The Pannonian plate forms the basis, with heath soil on top. Black earth, quartz, bulkheads and gravel are found in the vineyard.
After the manual harvest, which took place in two rounds on 25.8.2022 and 5.9.2022, the vines are completely destemmed. After pressing, a spontaneous fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks before it is bottled without fining or filtration on 10.3.2023.

Bright pomegranate red, bright reflections
Nose
The 2022 Zorra Rosé smells wonderfully of sour cherries and freshly tapped pomegranates. Green and red apple add a tart, refreshing note. Rosehip and red fruit tea increasingly take over the aromatic helm. A little juniper, kaffir lime leaves and blackberry bushes provide an ethereal and distinct spiciness with vegetal accents. This has hints of pyrazine and a vital, woody core. Freshly broken branches smell very similar. Raspberry and elderberry shine discreetly in the background.
Palate
No spark, no fire. We set it with Zorra to burn down the thicket of conventional rosés and sow new paths. There is a fire between white and red.
So says the back label. And so does the wine on the palate. Wild. Taut. Cool. Animating. Spicy. All at the same time. It seems juicy, but neither dense nor fruity-sweet. Pithy and yet accessible. Enormously precisely worked and with a high drinking fluency at low alcohol. This is how wine, and especially rosé, is contemporary.
The Nittnaus family sets off fireworks here.
