Wine Description for Bianco Porticello IGT 2023 from Tenuta di Castellaro

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with bright, brilliant reflections – a wine that captures the Sicilian sun in the glass.
Nose
This cuvée of Carricante, Muskateller and Malvasia presents itself as aromatic and fragrant with impressive complexity. Salted lemon and lemon dominate the first impression, followed by grapefruit, nashi pear and white peach. Exotic notes of lychee and passion fruit add tropical dimensions, whilst orange blossom provides elegance. Mediterranean herbs – thyme, lavender – and the association of pine groves underscore the Sicilian provenance. Limestone and a hint of cold smoke set mineralic accents in the finish.
Palate
A classic of Mediterranean white wine craftsmanship. The wine plays fully on fruit – light and yet full-bodied at once. Its warm heart, born from abundant sunshine, comes across as hearty and generous. The dense fruit rests on a stony framework full of angular elements. Bitter notes and salinity alternate elegantly and, despite moderate acidity, ensure high drinking appeal. Accessible and yet tense – a wine with character.
Finish
In the aftertaste, the aromatic spectrum repeats itself with emphasis. Above all, lemon dominates in its purest, most concentrated form – precise, clear, lingering.
Terroir & Provenance
Hailing from Tenuta di Castellaro in Sicily, this wine benefits from volcanic soils and the mineralic power of the Aeolian Islands. The limestone character lends it its characteristic tension and salinity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A harmonious cuvée of Muskateller, Carricante and Malvasia – three autochthonous grape varieties that define Sicily’s white wine identity. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol, the wine remains light-footed and elegant.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Perfect with grilled swordfish, Pasta con le Sarde, fried squid, goat’s cheese or Caprese with buffalo mozzarella. Also an excellent choice with Asian cuisine featuring lemongrass and coriander.
Special Features
An authentic expression of Sicilian wine culture – Mediterranean, mineralic, with perfect balance between fruit and freshness. A wine that awakens holiday feelings.
