Wine Description for Bianco Porticello IGT 2023 from Tenuta di Castellaro

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with bright, almost silvery reflections – the wine sparkles in the glass like Sicilian midday light on the sea.
Nose
The nose is an aromatic promise: salted lemon and lime open fresh and precise, followed by white peach, nashi pear and a hint of nutmeg. Exotic notes of lychee and passion fruit lend the cuvée depth, whilst orange blossom provides elegant lightness. The Mediterranean heart beats with thyme, lavender and the scent of pine groves. Limestone and a whisper of cool smoke set a mineral, almost cool signature.
Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals its most generous side: rich, dense fruit on a stony, angular framework. Light yet substantial at once – a balancing act made possible by the Sicilian sun. Salinity and fine bitter notes play off one another, creating a lively tension that delivers high drinking pleasure despite moderate acidity. Accessible yet never dull.
Finish
The aftertaste is clear and invigorating – citrus dominates, fresh and direct, with a saline finish that calls for another sip.
Terroir & Origin
Tenuta di Castellaro is located on the island of Lipari, the Aeolian Islands off the north coast of Sicily – a terroir of volcanic rock and limestone, shaped by sea winds and intense sunshine. This authenticity is palpable in the glass.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A cuvée from the indigenous varieties Carricante and Malvasia as well as the aromatic Muscat. The combination unites structure-giving freshness with floral expressiveness – vinified for fruit retention and vibrancy.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Ideal with grilled fish, seafood in lemon butter or Sicilian caponata. Also a revelation as an aperitif with burrata with citrus dressing or linguine alle vongole.
Special Characteristics
A wine that captures the soul of the Aeolian Islands in the glass – saline, sun-ripened and unmistakable. Not a wine for overthinkers, but for those who love the sea.
