Tenuta di Castellaro is located on a plateau on Lipari, the largest Aeolian island north of Sicily. The temperate, windy climate and the influence of the sea characterise the microclimate of the Piana di Castellaro, which benefits from the strong temperature amplitudes between day and night. The volcanic soils are rich in minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium and give the wines their special texture, structure and longevity. The vines are trained on single stakes with a vine density of 7000.

The Bianco Pomice is a cuvée of 60% Malvasia delle Lipari and 40% Carricante. Hand-picked, the Malvasia was fermented in steel and the Carricante in used barrels and aged on the lees for six months.

Nose

The nose of the 2022 Bianco Pomice from Tenuta di Castellaro immediately transports you to Lipari, to the small piazza in the harbour with a view of the yachts and incoming ferries. The salty sea breeze blends with the scent of blossoming lemon and orange groves and Mediterranean scrub. A Sicilian blend straight out of a picture book that has made Bianco Pomice the benchmark of the house. And rightly so.

Mouth

Super juicy on the attack, it combines herbal, spicy aromas with citrusy floral notes and a mineral, salty foundation. Refreshingly cool with a vertical stature and a stimulating phenolic feel on the palate, the fruit is more of a prompter for the overall appearance. Tidy and delicate, this nectar has everything in the right place, making it a congenial partner to Sicilian fare with a focus on shellfish and fish.
