- Colour & Appearance
- Dense, muted black-red, nearly impenetrable to the rim. The oily texture in the glass already reveals the impressive concentration of this extraordinary Etna red wine.
- Nose
- An olfactory fireworks display of outstanding intensity: preserved blackberries, cassis liqueur and black cherries unite with dark chocolate, espresso and smoked meat. These are joined by grilled rosemary, violets, truffle and liquorice – an aromatic depth carried by pronounced minerality and volcanic expression.
- Palate
- Dense, intense, silky. Sweet, intoxicating fruit meets herbaceous freshness and gripping power. The structure is impressive without ever feeling heavy – a wine of enormous length that already offers drinking pleasure now, but undoubtedly has years ahead of it.
- Finish
- Persistently long with dark fruit, spices and a fine mineral salinity that recalls the volcanic soils of Etna.
- Terroir & Origin
- The name „Vinupetra“ – Sicilian for „wine from stony soil“ – is a statement of intent. The grapes come from the Contrada Porcaria in Castiglione di Sicilia on Mount Etna’s north slope, at 580 metres elevation. The Vigna Calderara is managed by hand, without biotechnology, bottled according to lunar phases – winemaking purism in its purest form.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese, 10% Nerello Cappuccio and 10% Grenache. 30% of the grapes are fermented with stems, maceration lasts at least 15 days in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts from traditional palmenti. Ageing for 12-18 months in 225- and 500-litre barrels, followed by at least one year in bottle. Minimal sulphur addition only at bottling.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Definitely decant well in advance and serve lightly chilled. Perfect with Ibérico presa with warm bean salad, flank steak with whiskey barbecue sauce or wild mushrooms with raisins on pearl barley-cinnamon risotto. Generally ideal with intense cuisine featuring concentrated sauces.

- Each bottle is numbered – a sign of the limited production and the artisanal philosophy of Salvo Foti, one of the great innovators of Etna winemaking. A masterpiece that brings the power of the volcano into the glass.
