Colorino

The Colorino owes its name to the deep, almost impenetrable colour of its thick-skinned berries, which traditionally lend visual intensity and structuring tannins to Tuscan cuvées. Yet this autochthonous grape variety is far more than a mere provider of colour. It brings a dark, spicy berry fruit to the glass, with notes of black pepper, leather and dried herbs, underpinned by a pronounced acidity. In the hills of Chianti Classico, one can see how harmoniously it presents itself alongside Sangiovese and Mammolo.

Just how subtly this interplay can be achieved is demonstrated by the estate Le Boncie. In characterful wines such as Le Trame or Cinque, the Colorino grounds the delicate cherry fruit of the Sangiovese with precisely the right measure of dark spice and fine-grained tannin, bestowing upon the wines a profound, Tuscan soul.
