Wine Description for Sitta Doliola 2018 from Attis Bodegas y Vinedos
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous amber with orange reflections – the extended skin contact has given this Albariño an impressive visual depth that immediately signals: something extraordinary awaits in the glass.
- Nose
- An aromatic firework display that pushes the boundaries of what one would expect from Albariño. Ripe orange flesh, orange zest and orange marmalade dominate initially, accompanied by malt sweets and a bouquet of Mediterranean herbs – rosemary, thyme, eucalyptus – that seem dipped in honey. Dried apricots and apple peel join in, whilst oriental spices such as turmeric, cinnamon and clove provide exotic complexity. An intoxicating, multi-layered opening.
- Palate
- Dry, distinctive and with powerful texture, this orange wine grabs hold. The opulent fruit is perfectly balanced by a fine bitterness and a saline minerality that carries through to the finish. Despite its muscular, fleshy structure, the wine remains surprisingly drinkable – a rare combination of power and finesse. The tannins from the skin contact provide grip and structure without being intrusive.
- Finish
- Long, saline and with lingering spice notes. The bitterness of orange zest resonates elegantly and leaves one wanting the next sip – or better still: intense accompaniment from the plate.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Albariño from Rías Baixas, radically reinterpreted. Hand-harvested in small crates, complete destemming, spontaneous fermentation and partial maceration in 380-litre clay vessels (Doliola), spontaneous malolactic fermentation. A production of only 850 bottles makes this wine a true rarity.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- This wine demands aromatic, spicy cuisine: Grilled octopus with teriyaki sauce, turmeric risotto with grilled peach, Chateaubriand with orange-tarragon butter or generally dishes with oriental spices and citrus aromas. Definitely decant and serve at 12-14°C in large glasses.
- Special Features
- A bold, uncompromising orange wine from Galicia that proves Albariño can do far more than fresh summer wines. Excellent ageing potential – this 2018 will gain even more complexity in the coming years.
