Visual
The colour shimmers in an impenetrable cherry red that gently lightens towards the edges.
Scent
The 2020 Sancerre rouge reveals its character through an expressive, fragrant blend - reminiscent of sour cherries, wild raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Each fruit seems more present than ever, and yet its radiance remains fine and subtle at the same time. This fruitiness is underpinned by a subtle spiciness of herbs, dominated by thyme and a hint of chervil. A stunning floral bouquet of violets and rose petals completes the fragrance for an invigorating experience that can best unfold at a rather cooler temperature.
Taste
One sip of this wine reveals its refreshing, animating presence on the tongue. Minerality meets a light herbal spiciness and an invigorating acidity that dominate the flavour profile. The juicy fruitiness harmonises excellently with dishes whose character is underlined by herbs, and is also an excellent complement to various fish dishes.
Food recommendations
Try this wine with a menu of grilled beans complemented by blackcurrants and nasturtiums, or with a gilthead grilled on a bed of rosemary red wine risotto to bring out the flavours completely. An oriental spiced roast venison, gently cooked in herb broth and served with couscous, would also be an excellent choice to highlight the complexity of this wine.
