Wine Description for Sancerre Rouge 2020 by Domaine Vacheron

Colour & Appearance
Muted cherry red with delicate lightening towards the rim.
Nose
The 2020 vintage presents itself fragrant and expressive in the glass. Subtle nuances of sour cherries, wild raspberries, blackberries, as well as cassis and blueberries emerge. This fresh play of fruit is framed by meadow herbs such as thyme and chervil, along with a floral touch of violets and rose petals.
Palate
On the palate, this Pinot Noir proves refreshing and lively. Pronounced mineral notes meet a herbal spiciness and an invigorating acid structure. Despite its 14.0% ABV, the juicy fruit feels delightfully uplifting – especially when served at a cooler temperature.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Vacheron cultivates 46 hectares in the Sancerrois. The vines for this red wine benefit from the typical limestone and marl-rich soils of the appellation. While the limestone-rich Caillottes soils provide fresh minerality, the marl and clay-limestone formations of the Terres Blanches lend the wine structure and depth. Jean-Laurent Vacheron also brings profound experience from Aubert de Villaine in Burgundy, giving this Pinot Noir its clear sense of place.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir. The wine is vinified dry and reflects the savoir-faire of the winemaking family, who vinifies its single vineyard sites separately.
Food Pairings
Pairs excellently with grilled runner beans with blackcurrants and nasturtium. Equally rewarding with grilled sea bream on rosemary red wine risotto or delicately poached venison in oriental herbal broth served with couscous.
Key Details
A Sancerre Rouge of impressive finesse: The estate is considered a pioneer in the Loire Valley and has been BIODYVIN-certified since 2005. This wine convincingly demonstrates that Pinot Noir from the terroirs of the Sancerre region is far more than just an insider secret.
