Info

The 2022 Roero Arneis by Vietti comes from various plots around Santo Stefano Roero. The village is the absolute heart of the Roero area. The vines are on average 30 years young and stand on calcareous marl soils with a high proportion of shell limestone. The planting density is rather low at 4,500-5,00 vines per hectare.

After the manual harvest in early September 2022, the grapes were completely destemmed and cold macerated overnight. Gentle pressing followed by temperature-regulated fermentation at 14-16°C in steel tanks.

The fermentation tank is hermetically sealed at the end of fermentation to preserve the natural carbonic acid gas. The wine rested on the fine lees until the end of January. One tries to suppress the biological acid degradation in order to keep the freshness and liveliness higher.

Nose

Vietti delivers like a bank here. 2022 Arneis from Roero varies strongly between herbal and unusual Mediterranean aromas. Sage, oregano and thyme initially dominate the picture. Tomato - both from the oven and dried - is added as if on cue to complete this Mediterranean moment. Fresh fennel and coriander seeds complement this ingeniously. White currant, a hint of lychee as well as plenty of nashi pear provide it with delicate fruit and lots of freshness. Douglas fir and acacia make their presence felt. From the floral corner, apple as well as orchid blossoms come to the fore wonderfully.

Palate

On the palate, it clearly underlines these impressions. The fruit is in the foreground, but never dominant. It lives from freshness, coolness and finesse with a very well-dosed acidity. This makes it very animating and invites you to take big sips. The herbal and Mediterranean nuances also make it enormously exciting in the aftertaste. The floral component is strongly in the foreground next to the ethereal nuances. Very typical for the region, but realised on a very high level.
