Wine description for Dolcetto d'Alba DOC 2022 from Chiara Boschis - E.Pira & Figli

Colour & appearance

Bright, dark shimmering ruby red with light, almost violet reflections - youthful and inviting in the glass.

Nose

Chiara Boschis is a master at presenting the Dolcetto grape in all its finesse. This 2022 proves impressively that Dolcetto can do far more than just be a rustic everyday accompaniment. The nose unfolds a multi-layered interplay of aromas from Sweet cherry, Elderberry and Blackberry, which is infused with balsamic spicy notes. Juniper and coloured pepper lend a Mediterranean freshness to the bouquet, while hints of Leather and Cedar wood add subtle complexity. Fine notes of Cocoa butter and Milk chocolate round off the flavour profile - never intrusive, always elegantly integrated.

Palate

The true class of this Dolcetto is revealed on the palate: taut, juicy and of impressive precision. The fruit remains lean and focussed, supported by a lively acidity and a fine, silky tannin that never dominates. The spicy nuances of the nose return and give the wine additional depth. This is not a heavy, concentrated red wine, but a prime example of Piedmontese drinking elegance - animating, uncomplicated and more seductive with every sip.

General information

The grapes come from our own vineyards on chalky to clayey soils with inclusions of pebbles and iron - pure terroir. The consistent ageing in steel tanks preserves the freshness and fruit intensity that makes this Dolcetto so accessible. With 13% alcohol, it remains pleasantly drinkable.

Food pairing suggestions

The versatility of this Dolcetto is remarkable. It harmonises perfectly with Bacon dumplings with cream sauce, open raviolo with braised oxtail or vegetarian with Beetroot carpaccio with walnuts and lamb's lettuce. An ideal accompaniment to Piedmontese cuisine, but also to savoury pasta dishes and mature cheeses.

Special features

With this Dolcetto, Chiara Boschis proves that traditional grape varieties can become exceptional wines in the right hands. A wine that redefines Dolcetto - delicate instead of rustic, elegant instead of heavy.
