Color:
Bright yellow with green reflections, bright and clear.
Nose:
The nose of the 2017 Marienburg Falkenlay is disciplined and straightforward. Without any notable fruity escapades, it comes across as serious, clear as a bell and tidy. Mineral notes of rock flour and wet chalk are restrainedly underpinned by grapefruit oil and pit fruit peel. Currently a clear case for the carafe and the big glasses.
Mouth:
In the nose with biting grip and finely woven phenolic corset. Taut on the palate, the acid arc coated by creamy mineral melting and garnished with delicate saltiness. Fruit is not a big issue with this structural experience that currently appears as if wrapped in clouds and holds potential for many years of bottle aging.
Food recommendations by Sebastian Bordthäuser:
- Goat cheese with salty pine nut honey (vegetarian)
(cheese)
- Pears, beans and pike
(Fish, Vegetables & Vegetarian, Legumes, Fruits & Nuts)
- Poularde with parsley roots and quinces from the oven
(Poultry, Vegetable & Vegetarian)
