Color
The wine has a brilliant golden yellow with light apricot reflections.
Nose
The nose of the 2012 Pedra de Guix opens brilliantly with peach, plump yellow pears and fully ripe melon, all adorned with subtle herbal notes of thyme, some mace and subtle wood spice. A light Virginia tobacco leaf holds it all together. A wine that presents itself best with plenty of air, so please carafe and serve in large glasses.
Mouth
The Pedra de Guix, a cuvée of white Grenache, Macabeu and Pedro Ximenez is a colossal white wine. Of course much too young, therefore a wine worth keeping an eye on and cellaring a few bottles. Dense and punchy on the nose with an immense inner tension that suggests the wine is about to burst with aromatic density. The wood is finely and elegantly interwoven, contours the beautiful cheeks like rouge without slipping into the mask-like. A crystalline, fine acidity gives it a drinkability that is rare in such massively built wines. Add to that the fabulous minerality that makes it taste slightly salty and gives further substance and backbone. A wine with an epic finish that for me is one of the best white wines in Spain.
