Wine information

For these three wines, Johannes Zillinger selects the coolest parcels of the oldest vineyards: the plots close to the forest, facing north and north-east, and the windy hillside sites, all of which grow on limestone-sandstone soils. Parcellaire blanc #1 is a cuvée made from 62 % Welschriesling and 38 % Chardonnay. The grapes were harvested by hand on 19 September 2021. The Welschriesling was fermented spontaneously in Kvevri, the Chardonnay was pressed as a whole bunch and fermented spontaneously in used Numen tonneaux. The wine was matured for twelve months in 1,000 and 600 litre barrels. The total sulphur content is 25 mg/l, the pH value is 3.2 and the residual sugar is 3 grams.

Lemon yellow

Nose

The Welschriesling in particular characterises the nose here with a slightly nutty, tart aroma that mingles with some yellow curry, blond tobacco, lichen and branches. The Chardonnay provides notes of lemons and still crunchy pears.

Palate

On the palate, this is a precise, polished, clear wine with great depth. The distinctive salinity and citrus flavours have a mouth-watering effect, the phenolics are grippy and the curry is spicy. The wine has volume and power, yet remains fascinatingly lean and electrifyingly fresh. It is an absolutely harmonious, well-balanced wine of great tension.
