Wine Description for Nana 2023 by Attis Bodegas y Vinedos
- Colour & Appearance
- Intense, luminous golden yellow with a warm core and bright, vibrant reflections – a wine that already promises substance and depth in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose is of striking complexity. Initially, opulent, almost pastry-like notes dominate: cream slice, apricot cream cake, Tarte Tatin. Beneath this unfolds a rich fruit basket of vineyard peach, mirabelle plum, mango and a hint of passion fruit. What keeps this abundance in balance are cool counterpoints: cold smoke, fine salinity and a mineral, almost slate-like suggestion that unmistakably locates the Atlantic origin. Rich and yet suffused with freshness – an impressive balancing act.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Nana executes a surprising, elegant about-turn. The opulent nose gives way to a lean, bright structure: Nashi pear, green apple and yellow pear characterise the cool, invigorating opening. The acidity is taut and precise, the character clear and linear. With air, the wine subtly builds creaminess and smoothness – the oak whispers, it doesn’t shout. The texture remains consistently stony, saline and vibrant, underpinned by a fine maritime note that holds freshness and depth in balance.
- Finish
- Long, bright and elegant. A green, saline minerality precisely inscribes the Atlantic origin into the mouth – an echo that lingers and invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the Val do Salnés, the most prestigious subzone of Rías Baixas, where granite meets sandy loam layers. The vines – the oldest in the bodega – are exposed westward to the Atlantic and are cultivated in the traditional pergola training system. Terroir here is no metaphor, but a tangible reality.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Albariño in its most demanding interpretation. Hand-harvested, sorted on the selection table, cold maceration. Only the first pressing goes into the Nana. Spontaneous fermentation in 228- and 500-litre French oak barrels, followed by a full year of ageing on fine lees with regular batonnage. The result: texture and depth without sacrificing freshness.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal with grilled turbot or scallops with saffron sauce. Also wonderful with gambas al ajillo, Pulpo a la gallega or a creamy seafood risotto. For the adventurous: also with a mild goat’s cheese and honey.
- Special Characteristics
- The Nana is no crowd-pleasing entry-level Albariño – it is a serious, barrel-aged white wine with ageing potential. Those who encounter it today meet it at a stage full of tension and promise. In two to four years, it should develop into something truly extraordinary.
