Wine Description for Jagini Zagersdorf 2011 by Moric

Colour & Appearance
Luminous garnet red with violet reflections – remarkably youthful for a wine over ten years old. The colour already reveals the extraordinary vitality of this Blaufränkisch.
Nose
Captivating freshness and density in equal measure. Blueberries and elderflower dominate, accompanied by liquorice, a hint of peat and fine coffee notes. The pronounced saline minerality lends the aromatic profile a cool, almost Nordic depth – a complete work of art that invites you to immerse yourself.
Palate
Here the true class reveals itself: refined structure meets refreshing vibrancy. The tannins present themselves as silky, the fruit juicy and precise. The wine practically dances across the palate – elegant, without losing substance. Pure drinking pleasure.
Finish
Long, fresh and carried by impressive mineral precision. The fruit lingers for a considerable time without feeling heavy.
Terroir & Origin
From 60-year-old vineyards in Zagersdorf on Lake Neusiedl. The chalky soils and Pannonian climate give this Blaufränkisch its characteristic tension between ripeness and freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation and four years of maturation in wooden casks – a collaborative project by Roland Velich and Hannes Schuster that demonstrates patience and courage. This extended maturation period has paid off: the wine displays perfect integration and harmony.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A pleasure on its own, yet it also shines with braised venison, duck breast with cherry sauce, aged alpine cheese or mushroom risotto with truffle. Aromatic, refined cuisine is its domain.
Special Characteristics
A wine that demonstrates outstanding winemaking talent and proves that Austrian Blaufränkisch ranks among Europe’s most exciting red wines. Despite being over a decade old, it appears remarkably youthful – a sign of excellent ageing potential.
