Wine description for Jagini Zagersdorf 2011 from Moric

Colour & appearance

A surprisingly youthful garnet red with lively violet reflections, which emphasises the remarkable longevity of this Blaufränkisch.

Nose

The 2011 Jagini reveals a fascinating aromatic complexity: concentrated flavours with a Blueberries and Elderberry form the fruit base, while notes of Liquorice, Peat and subtle coffee provide depth. The distinctive salty minerality gives the wine a cool precision reminiscent of great Burgundies.

Palate

The true mastery of this wine is revealed on the palate. The impressive structural finesse with silky, perfectly integrated tannins carries a juicy, focussed fruit. The vibrant acidity gives the wine tension and length. The finish is remarkably persistent - a prime example of the elegance that Blaufränkisch can achieve when vinified with restraint and respect.

General information

An extraordinary joint project between two masters of their trade: Roland Velich (Moric) and Hannes Schuster. The 60-year-old vines from Zagersdorf produce grapes of remarkable concentration. Spontaneous fermentation and four years of barrel ageing have created a wine that perfectly embodies the quality revolution of Austrian red wines. With 13% alcohol, the wine remains elegant and balanced.

Food recommendations

A versatile companion for fine dining. Excellent with Game with cranberries, Braised lamb shoulder or Mushroom risotto with truffles. The salty minerality harmonises wonderfully with smoked meat and matured cheese.

Special features

A remarkable ambassador of the Austrian terroir that raises the qualities of Blaufränkisch to an international level. The combination of freshness, structure and depth makes this wine a worthy representative of Roland Velich's Burgundian approach. Despite its age, the 2011 Jagini still shows youthful vitality and has further ageing potential for at least a decade.
