Wine Description for Majas Orange VdF 2022 by Majas

Colour & Appearance
Pale copper-coloured with remarkable clarity – noticeably less cloudy than the previous vintage. The delicate copper hue immediately reveals the skin contact time of this unconventional Sauvignon Blanc.
Nose
Subtle and charming in equal measure: baked apples with skins, greengage plums and gorse form the aromatic core. These are joined by hay and yeasty notes reminiscent of natural amphora wines, despite the ageing taking place in concrete. With a little warmth in the glass, seductive nuances of acacia blossom and acacia honey unfold.
Palate
Here the Orange reveals its full personality: fresh and lively, yet with the characteristic tannin structure and phenolics from the 15-day skin fermentation. Apple, apple skins, herbs, a hint of ginger and liquorice define the flavour profile. The acidity acts silky and fine, pleasantly supporting – a balance that is particularly remarkable at just 11% alcohol.
Terroir & Origin
The vines have been rooted since 2010 near Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes in Roussillon in soil composed of clay, limestone and some slate. The organically managed vineyard yielded a modest harvest of around 30 hl/ha in 2022 – concentration through natural yield reduction.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Sauvignon Blanc, hand-picked and spontaneously fermented as whole bunches for 15 days on the skins. Aged for several months in concrete, bottled without fining or filtration with minimal added sulphur – pure minimalism.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with fennel and orange salad with farmhouse bread, aubergine hummus with feta and olives or deep-fried courgettes with anchovies. The tannins and vibrant acidity make it an ideal companion to Mediterranean vegetable cuisine and oil-based preparations.
Special Features
An approachable, elegant orange wine without extreme oxidation or excessive phenolics. The clarity and freshness of this vintage demonstrate that skin contact time need not equate to rusticity – a modern, eminently drinkable natural wine with finesse.
