Wine Description for Pi:not Mugler & Schumann Unfiltered 2022 by M. Schädler – Steffen Mugler

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, medium ruby red with violet reflections – the deliberately omitted filtration lends the wine a natural, vibrant haze that openly displays its artisanal provenance.
Nose
Seductive and immediate: fresh cherries, raspberries and a hint of wild strawberry meet delicate floral notes of violet. Beneath lies a fine, earthy depth – damp forest floor, a whisper of clove and the unmistakable vibrancy of biodynamically grown grapes.
Palate
Slender, fresh and delightfully precise. The wine displays the elegant, cool side of the Palatinate: red berry fruits, a lively acidity and silky, fine-grained tannins that caress the palate without demanding anything. With 12.5% alcohol it remains light-footed and inviting – a Pinot Noir that brings joy without showing off.
Finish
Medium length, clear and with pleasant mineral freshness in the closing notes. A wine that calls for the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the vineyards around Maikammer on the southern Mittelhaardt – one of the most characterful corners of the Palatinate. Steffen Mugler and his wife Daniela have managed the vineyard sites of Manfred Schädler since 2002 according to the principles of biodynamic viticulture, which gives the soil and grapes increasingly more expression and vitality year after year.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), deliberately unfiltered – a clear commitment to the wine’s naturalness and integrity. The omission of filtration preserves texture, depth and the vibrant character of the fruit.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with grilled salmon, duck breast with cherries, Palatinate Saumagen in refined interpretation or aged goat’s cheese. Also a delight as an accompaniment to a straightforward charcuterie board.
Special Features
The name Pi:not is programme: a wink at all the conventions this wine deliberately questions. Unfiltered, biodynamic, unaffected – Steffen Mugler’s philosophy of working in harmony with nature is palpable in every sip.
