Nose

The 2017 Le Mont Moelleux 1ère trie is a grandiose wine, and you notice that from the first second. The fruit was harvested about a month earlier than usual, so that only little botrytis had formed. The wine is full of ripe pome fruit and also some stone fruit, which becomes more dominant with air. Ginger is found here as well as bitter oranges, a little honey, salted almonds, nougat and pickled garden herbs. All this is in the flow, changes; because the wine leads a life of its own and shows always new facets.

Palate

The remarkable precision that runs through the entire vintage finds its climax in this wine. The 65 grams of sweetness seem very buoyant and very harmonious in the overall structure, the yellow fruit is ripe yet fine. The phenolics provide substance, the texture is viscous, the acidity lively as well as absolutely precise and fine, all penetrating and holding everything in abeyance. In addition, the round of apricots and quinces, prunes and kumquats combine with spices and salty notes to create a terrific, long finish. Of course, all this is still at the beginning of a development that can be followed for decades and will become more and more impressive.
